HUB logistics and Marioff Corporation Oy have agreed on acid-proof high pressure –sprinkler tube storage, repackaging and forwarding in December 2009, as they signed a service contract.

 HUB brings external know-how and development activities to services in additiona to rapid response time and high quality of activity.  HUB is also responsible for pipe cutting and samples for laboratory studies.

Marioff is the world's leading water mist fire suppression systems supplier.  Marioff designs, manufactures and supplies high-pressure water mist fire protection systems under the brand name HI-FOG ®.

Marioff is known for strict time limits and successfully completing the retrofit projects.  They have for example,  hundreds of systems at sea, offshore and land-based location application.

At the end of October 2009 Konecranes signed a contract to outsource its terminal operations in Hyvinkää, Finland, to Finnish company HUB logistics Packaging Oy. Konecranes’ terminal operations include the reception of goods, packaging and dispatch functions. The outsourcing decision affects 20 Konecranes employees within these functions. All employees will be transferred to HUB logistics Packaging Oy retaining their existing employee status. The changes will be effective as of November 9, 2009.

The reasons for outsourcing the terminal operations functions are to achieve increased productivity and flexibility and to obtain additional cost savings.

“Outsourcing terminal operations supports Konecranes’ strategy of focusing on its core business: improving our customers’ productivity and profitability by providing lifting equipment and services with unrivalled reliability and quality,” says Juha Anttila, Director of Supply Operations in Business Area Heavy Lifting. “While in our supply operations we want to focus on further developing our supply chain and own manufacturing, at the same time we want to have a specialized partner, whose core business focus is on running and developing terminal operations. As these operations are of vital importance for us, we want to have a dedicated specialist to take care of both these needed tasks.”

The outsourcing action is included in the estimates announced in the second quarter interim report 2009 i.e. an annual cost saving target of 100 MEUR in 2010 compared to 2008.

HUB logistics is a forerunner in logistics in Finland, offering flexible, customized logistics services. HUB logistics’ service offering includes the entire logistics process from managing and developing activities to financing working capital. Until now Konecranes has bought packages and packaging services and hired personnel from HUB logistics.

HUB logistics headquarters is located in Kytömaantie, Kerava from 1st of October on. In addition to offices this new property has over 4000 m2 warehouse and production space. HUB logistics has purchased a packaging service company, Kenane Oy Ab, in Vaasa. The Kenane company is now part of HUB logistics Packaging Oy. All Kenane operations in Vaasa continue as usual.

With this new service unit HUB logistics is capable of better meeting the customer needs in both packaging and logistics service area in Vaasa region. Especially exporting companies need a partner that is capable of offering all the logistics services from one door.

One of the most traditional Finnish furniture manufacturer, Koti-Isku, has chosen HUB logistics as an outsourcing partner for the warehousing function.

The outsourcing started at the beginning of August in Lahti and the whole personnel of Koti-Isku warehouse, 16 people, moved to HUB logistics.

In the service model HUB logistics is responsible for all the warehousing and distribution functions. An important part of the service is continuous development and improvement of the functions.

M.Sc. (Eng.) Reima Ollila joined the HUB logistics consultancy team in November. Reima has specialized in manufacturing development, especially Lean Manufacturing.

DNA has chosen HUB logistics Industrial Oy as their partner for warehouse outsourcing starting from 1st of October 2008.

DNA has several warehouses in Southern, Western and South-Western Finland. All of these areas have their own operational models and now DNA has decided to standardize and further develop the operations together with the help of a partner specialized in logistics.

The cooperation will start with a transaction where 14 people will move from DNA to work for HUB logistics. Their terms of employment will stay as they are. The sites will also stay as they are for now.

Aki Jumppanen has been appointed as the Director, Business Development from 8th of September 2008 on. At the same time HUB logistics will open a new office in Joensuu. Aki is in charge of the ICT and the development tasks of HUB logistics. Aki is also the new sales manager of Eastern Finland area. Aki formerly worked in Perlos Oyj as a Lean Manufacturing Director.

HUB logistics and Oy AGA Ab have agreed that HUB will handle the Rautaruukki Raahe gas bottle logistics starting from September 1st. According to the agreed cooperation model HUB will take care of the internal AGA gas bottle logistics in the Rautaruukki Raahe steel plant.

HUB brings the cooperation its competence in developing operations and in improving the quality of services and operations. With this cooperation model both Rautaruukki and AGA are able to focus more resources on their core competence.

M.Sc. (Econ.) Katri Niiranen was appointed as a consultant for the HUB logistics consultancy team in August. Katri is specialized in inventory optimization and procurement.

Ms. Tiia Törmälä, sponsored by HUB logistics, got a gold medal in girls’ rifle position competition with new European Record result in Pilsen, Czech Republic, on Friday 11th of July. Tiia, 17 years, who represents the club “Rauman Seudun Urheiluampujat” got a result of 685,7 (583+102,7) points. She was superior throughout the competition, winning the second, Melanie Kunz from Germany, by 6,5 points. Tiia Törmälä was already on the lead with 5 points after the basic round of 60 shots.

Rautaruukki Oyj and HUB logistics have agreed to expand their cooperation in packaging manufacturing. The new agreement deals with the manufacturing of packages at the Ruukki Hämeenlinna plant and in the Naantali, Järvenpää and Hyvinkää service centers.

During this spring Ruukki chose between several packaging manufacturers in order to diminish the number of suppliers and to find a long-term and a cost competitive partner. HUB logistics met the requirements. It was also in HUB’s favor that Ruukki already had good experiences of HUB logistics delivery accuracy and flexibility.

“To develop our business cost competitively requires our service partners strong professionalism and a holistic service that takes into account the characteristics of our business. HUB logistics has proved its capability when working as a package service provider in our Järvenpää service centre. With the new agreement we will seek cost savings together with our partner by finding new product solutions and processes.
