At the end of October 2009 Konecranes signed a contract to outsource its terminal operations in Hyvinkää, Finland, to Finnish company HUB logistics Packaging Oy. Konecranes’ terminal operations include the reception of goods, packaging and dispatch functions. The outsourcing decision affects 20 Konecranes employees within these functions. All employees will be transferred to HUB logistics Packaging Oy retaining their existing employee status. The changes will be effective as of November 9, 2009.

The reasons for outsourcing the terminal operations functions are to achieve increased productivity and flexibility and to obtain additional cost savings.

“Outsourcing terminal operations supports Konecranes’ strategy of focusing on its core business: improving our customers’ productivity and profitability by providing lifting equipment and services with unrivalled reliability and quality,” says Juha Anttila, Director of Supply Operations in Business Area Heavy Lifting. “While in our supply operations we want to focus on further developing our supply chain and own manufacturing, at the same time we want to have a specialized partner, whose core business focus is on running and developing terminal operations. As these operations are of vital importance for us, we want to have a dedicated specialist to take care of both these needed tasks.”

The outsourcing action is included in the estimates announced in the second quarter interim report 2009 i.e. an annual cost saving target of 100 MEUR in 2010 compared to 2008.

HUB logistics is a forerunner in logistics in Finland, offering flexible, customized logistics services. HUB logistics’ service offering includes the entire logistics process from managing and developing activities to financing working capital. Until now Konecranes has bought packages and packaging services and hired personnel from HUB logistics.
